Sometimes you have to lead your peers to get them move into the right direction.
Sometimes you have to influence or lead your boss because your boss doesn’t see something that you see, or he/she is making a decision that doesn’t make sense for you on the frontlines.
So you have to utilize leadership to lead up the chain of command, to move your boss in the right direction.
So no matter where you are inside of a company, you are in a leadership position.
No matter what your job is, you are a leader.
And leadership is about building relationships.
You build successful relationships by:
- trusting each other
- listening to each other
- respecting each other
- allowing to be influenced by each other
- caring for each other
You trust each other by going through things together.
If you want someone to listen to you, you need to first listen to them.
First try to understand, before seeking to be understood.
If you treat people with respect, you will slowly develop mutual respect.
If you want to have influence over someone, you need to allow him/her to influence you first.
Take care of your people and they will take care of you.
Build relationships with people up, down and across the chain of command, and that’s how you end up with a powerful team.
